merlin recs!

I quit my job about two weeks ago and so I have had more time to read fic and most of that fic has been in Merlin. I also met [personal profile] deerang2002 last weekend, who is an absolute darling. We had yummy Thai food and then had coffee and talked about life and fandom and fics we love. I realized I clearly have been out of fandom too long when I had not even heard of the "BNF fic."

Here's a conglomeration of recs. May of these have been rec'd on my flist lately. Thus: many of you have probably read them. Either way, I hope you find something new here or are reminded of some great fic you've already read.

If you find any typos, please let me know!

Behold the recs! )

Recs: HP and Merlin

HP Art Rec:

Observing by [profile] xaphania (Snape/Draco, implied Lucius/Draco, NC-17/NSW)

What an exquisite, tense scene this is. It's not just hot (which it is) - the mood is heavy and intense and translates the dynamics in such a way that seems really difficult to do as an artist. Draco's arse. Just - guh.

Merlin Fic Rec:

My Thoughts (drift to you) by [profile] hermette (Merlin/Arthur, NC-17)
The small tent is warm and even across the small stretch of space Arthur is like a furnace.

Fucking hell, this fic is hot. I read it on [community profile] kinkme_merlin earlier today and knew, somehow, that this was my darling [profile] hermette's work. This hit my kinks so perfectly (mutual masturbation and dirty talk and UST) and the writing is wonderful. This is tied with the hottest thing I've ever read in this fandom. Just *melts*.

Merlin rec

Three Faces by [profile] spiny (Merlin/Arthur, NC-17)

Second person narration, and I love it.

Merlin rec: Like a Fish Needs a Bicycle (Morgana-centric)

GO READ THIS NOW. That's all I have to say. It's brilliant.

Like a Fish Needs a Bicycle by [personal profile] netgirl_y2k (Morgana/Vivian, Arthur, Uther, Gwen, Morgause, PG-13, 8900 words)

Summary: In which Morgana is the gayest person in Camelot, Uther wants a wedding, Arthur tries to be helpful, Gwen's wasted on men and Vivian getting hit by that love spell ruins everything.

Merlin Rec: Love me, and mend by

I've not been reading Merlin much lately, and I'm trying to get back into the mood for it so I can write a very belated [community profile] help_haiti fic for [personal profile] staraflur. A good way, I thought, would be to read [profile] spiny's latest fic, and I was so, so right. I know a lot of you have already read this. Consider re-reading or reading it for the first time, even if you're sour because of wank or Series Two or interviews.

Love me, and mend by [profile] spiny (Merlin/Arthur, NC-17, 10,000 words)

Her writing is so close to perfect, I don't even know. It's the kind of fic you just fall into and you forget you're reading. The writing is rich and seamless, interesting but natural. The characters are pulled straight from the show, so recognizable. The tension is subtle, as is the humor. There's very little exposition, just a wave of words, actions. No words wasted.

Fic recs (Merlin and HP)

My [profile] camelotsolstice fic was posted yesterday, and I have an inkling of a feeling of who might have written it. ;-) It's utterly fantastic - Merlin/Arthur, with bondage and magic!sex and rimming. There's a wonderful tenderness - a heavy sense of possession and we-belong-together without being too fluffy. Merlin is having his way here - he's strong-willed and so hot, but it's not overdone and Arthur seems to enjoy it. There's still the challenge between them - they seem comfortable enough with one another and genuinely tender and loving, while still casually bantering. It's such a great dynamic and makes me so giddy. Go read!

Everywhere We Touch by Anon (Merlin/Arthur, NC-17, magic!sex, light bondage, ~1800 words)
Summary: Arthur returns to Camelot after a long journey away.

Eventually, I hope to work my way through some of the [profile] hd_holidays fics. I read The World Thy Gaol by [personal profile] novembersnow earlier, and highly recommend you all do the same. :D Snow writes in such a seamless prose with strong verbs and great uses of language, sharp dialogue and clever flashes of humor. Nothing is too overdone and for it, the overall effect is so much better. She's a star of a writer, I swear. The fic explores Harry and Draco's life postwar - especially Draco's - but what they have in common really helps the pairing click for me. There's the very real antagonism I miss in a lot of H/D fic nowadays and the tension. The fic is hot as hell, too, because of the tension. This is a less-than-perfect Harry, which I appreciate. Draco is given a lot of agency and I'm able to really empathize with him here. The ending leaves enough open but is satisfying. Go read - it's clever, solid, hot, funny, and creative.

The World Thy Gaol by [personal profile] novembersnow (Harry/Draco, R, 18300 words)
Summary: In the post-war world, nothing seemed to fit quite right anymore.

A couple of Merlin recs!

A few days ago I filled out the shippy meme and one of the questions asked who'd I'd like to see on a double date. Well, clearly the answer is Gwen & Morgana and Merlin & Arthur.

Well, the awesome [info] fitzette wrote an epically fabulous AU with just that set-up: the OT4 on a double date. It's Merlin/Arthur which culminates in angry sex and it's so delicious. [info] fitzette has these really gorgeous way of writing - concise and clear, tight pacing, well-placed humour and pitch perfect characterisation. Everything is spot-on, just the way I like it. ;-)

Go read Double Date here (Merlin/Arthur, NC-17, 3700 words)
"It's a good idea," Merlin interrupted, and it was. A double date was exactly what he needed to take his mind off the really inappropriate thoughts he was starting to have about his best mate. Continuing to have. Whatever, it was a good idea.

And now for a couple of multi-ship Merlin recs )

Merlin recs for the taking and the happy-making

here you are, folks. some merlin/arthur recs, most of them ones i've burned through in the last week. there some obscure recs, some really old recs and some new ones. it's a weird mix. some things everyone has read and i just got around to; some only a few of you might've read. enjoy the eccentric mix, yeah? also, there's no rps this time because, frankly, i've not read enough recently. hopefully i'll have some next time.

want past recs? check the tags!

i'm always careful, you know me )

merlin recs-a-palooza. or something.

I was thinking to my self, "It's been a long time since you've posted Merlin recs!" And then I responded, "Oh, it's not been that long; you're clearly losing track of time in your not-really old age." Turns out I was right! It's been several weeks, nearly a month, since I last posted recs! So here we go. This time there are a few Gwen/Morgana and Merlin/Morgana recs...but it's a pathetic attempt at diversity. Most are still Merlin/Arthur. And there's Bradley/Colin for all the RPS fiends.

i don't get nervous )

I posted these on LJ last night and thought I'd post them here for those Merlin fen lurking about.

Recs, both old and new. This is just a taste of more to come! :D

i'm willing to sleep my way to the top )
